About Lucknow Junction

Authentic Lucknowi cuisine, crafted with tradition and served with warmth. From slow-cooked biryanis to tandoori specialities, every dish we serve carries a story — of family, heritage, and the city we grew up in.

Our Story

Lucknow Junction is the dream of husband-and-wife team Abhishek and Monica Verma. After running the first Lucknow Junction in Oldham for two years, we moved to a larger home on Higher Market Street, Farnworth, so we could welcome more guests and share the food of our childhood with Bolton.

Monica leads the kitchen and the day-to-day running of the restaurant. She left her career as a software engineer to follow her passion for Lucknowi cooking, while Abhishek stays behind the scenes, still working in tech and supporting the business he is proud to call family.

What started as a simple idea — to serve the food we ate at home — has grown into a restaurant recognised among the UK's best Indian restaurants, winning Best Regional Indian Cuisine Restaurant – North Indian at the Indian Restaurant Congress & Awards.

Growing Up in Lucknow

Lucknow is more than a city to us — it is the flavour of childhood Sundays, the aroma from our grandparents' kitchens, and the sound of spices being ground fresh each morning. The capital of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, Lucknow is famous for its nawabi hospitality and its refined, slow-cooked cuisine.

Unlike the hotter, coconut-based dishes of the south, Lucknowi food is built on delicate spice blends, slow simmering, hand-pounded pastes, and hours of patience. It is food made for celebrations, for family gatherings, and for making guests feel like royalty.

Awadhi & Mughlai Roots

Our menu draws from the Awadhi and Mughlai traditions that made Lucknow famous. Awadhi cooking perfected the art of the dum pukht style — sealing meat, rice and spices in a heavy pot so they steam together in their own juices. The result is biryani where every grain of rice carries fragrance, and curries where meat falls from the bone.

From the Mughlai influence come the rich gravies, kebabs, kormas and tandoori specialities that still fill the streets and weddings of Lucknow today. We prepare everything from scratch, using fresh vegetables and quality ingredients, because that is how it was done in the kitchens we grew up in.
